Bears Baseball Takes 2nd in SWCL Tournament

The Galena High School baseball team played Monday October 14 at US Ballpark playing the Blue Eye Bulldogs at 4:30 pm. The Bears were very excited heading into the tournament after being 2-1 in the conference. Returning varsity players from last year's Conference champion team are Wyatt Doak, Blake Wall, Bryce Wall, Cody Jones, and Jaxon Foster. The Bears had a pretty promising chance of winning it all in this year's SWCL Tournament.

Monday, October 14th, the Bears played the number three seeded Blue Eye Bulldogs at Ozark Mountain Sports Complex. The Bears came out roaring with five runs in the first inning while the Bulldogs put up zero runs on the board in the first inning. Bears pitcher, Wyatt Doak, had 12 strikeouts, allowed three earned runs and zero hits in 3.1 innings. Relief pitcher, Tristin Papazian, came in and pitched 2.2 innings and gave up one earned run and struck out three batters. Closing pitcher, Joell Simpson, pitched one inning with one strikeout to seal the win for the Bears in seven innings with the final score of 11-7. The Bears moved on to the championship game to face off against the Purdy Eagles at 6:30 pm at Ozark Mountain Sports Complex.

Tuesday, October 15th, the Bears had a good first inning scoring two runs and holding Purdy to one run. Starting pitcher for the Bears was Bryce Wall. Relief pitchers were Andru Foster and Aiden Keithley. The Bears got off to an early lead in the first inning 2-1, but unfortunately that was all of the runs the Bears scored. The final score was 12-2 Purdy. The Bears had a decent fall season ending with a 12-11 record. The Bears are very excited to get to work and get better over the winter and prepare for the spring.
